Free handgun with your new car

|

Some car dealership offers free oil changes, some offer cash rebate, but not Max Motors: they offer a free handgun with every vehicle sold (or a gas card, but so far almost all have chosen the firearm) …

Owner Mark Muller said: "We’re just damn glad to live in a free country where you can have a gun if you want to."

The dealership sells new and old vehicles, including General Motors and Ford cars and trucks, and its logo shows a cowboy holding a pistol.

It has sold more than 30 cars and trucks in the past three days, an increase which the owners put down to their promotional offer.

Mr Muller said that every buyer so far "except one guy from Canada and one old guy" chose the gun, rather than the gas card. (Source)

Man breaks world record for getting hit, thrown by car

|

Matthew McKnight holds a death-defying world record that not even the most courageous daredevil would seek to break.

Six years ago, Mr. McKnight of Fayette County was struck by a car doing 70 mph (112 km/h) along Interstate 376 in Monroeville while he was trying to aid two accident victims. He was thrown 118 feet (36 meters) -- about the height of a 12-story building -- and lived to tell the tale.

Mr. McKnight became the holder of a Guinness World Records mark in 2003. And just last month he discovered that his feat -- unsolicited as it was -- finally earned a hard-copy entry in the encyclopedia of superlatives' 2008 edition.

Mr. McKnight remembers nothing but snippets of the first few hours of his ordeal. He spent two weeks in the hospital and another 80 days between two rehabilitation centers. He took his first steps Jan. 14, 2002, and returned to work that April.

"I was devastated. There was talk that I may never walk again," Mr. McKnight said. "I was determined to prove them wrong."

To see Mr. McKnight today, one wouldn't guess that he had once broken his pelvis, shoulder, lower leg and tailbone. He walks without a limp, said he pops only an occasional over-the-counter painkiller and is back to fighting fires and rescuing those in need.

Mr. McKnight said he wouldn't hesitate to stop by the side of the road to help someone again and, in fact, has done so several times.

Fish Car

|

An artist is finding it hard to find a parking "plaice" for his silver car since converting it into a giant fish.

Andy Hazell, from Knighton, Powys, has spent thousands turning his Vauxhall Corsa into an 18ft (5.5m) scale model of a sea bass.

Mr Hazell, 48, has also fitted a hydraulic system so the fish can swish its tail, raise its fins and open and close its mouth.

He said: "Some people do think I'm mad, but I love building strange things."

There are 320 fluorescent lights along the fish's streamlined aluminium body and 12-volt motors operate the moving parts.

Circuit Board Car

Some people make clock, keychain, lamp, and sculptures out of circuit boards, but it takes a true geek to cover one’s car with them.

Wooden car with a split personality

A Ukrainian man gave up his job, sold his two other vehicles and spent one and a half years in his garage to create his dream vehicle. His literally half-modern, half-retro car has a wooden body made of thousands of oak parts.

Vasily Lazarenko says the most difficult thing was to preserve the balance between the modern and vintage halves of his design, so that they didn’t clash with each other.

Under the wooden bonnet there’s a 1981 Opel with a 100-horse-power engine.

The wooden body was assembled with glue and bolts and is covered with five layers of waterproof and fire resistant lacquer.

Vasily is reluctant to reveal how much the project cost but says he'll consider selling the wooden car provided he gets enough money to pay for his next secret project.

Car for sale has done 200 miles per day for 12 years

| |

There's high mileage, and then there's this. A 1995 Honda Civic is for sale in Atlanta with, count 'em, 939,899 miles. That's 200+ miles a day. Every day. Including Sundays. For 12 years. It even has a Carfax report from when the car had 907,000 miles on it. According to the seller, the car runs like new, with no leaks, no noises, no oil burning, and not even a scratch on the body. In fact, the only blemish listed is that one of the dashboard lights doesn't work, and that's only sometimes.

The car is on its ninth timing belt, ninth water pump, and fourth clutch. But the engine and transmission are original, as are the floor mats. The car even comes with records. The most incredible thing isn't the mileage, though. It's how the owner put the miles on the car: driving on business trips from Atlanta... to Seattle... and San Francisco. We want to know what kind of business -- or what kind of boss -- makes a guy drive across the country and back, and then some, every single month for 12 straight years.
